OL hopes busy summer turns into offers

Sugar Land (Texas) Austin offensive guard Jimmy Miller camped about 100 places this past summer. Now the 6-foot-3, 310-pound offensive lineman hopes that his hard work at the camps will pay off with September calls and more scholarship offers.
“I camped at Michigan State, TCU, Northwestern, Texas Tech, Baylor, Texas A&M, Michigan and Western Michigan,” he said. “I also then visited a few campuses, too. I went to places like Pittsburgh and Illinois.”

With an offer on the table from Louisiana Monroe, Miller said a few teams do stand out as favorites and he can’t wait to hear from them this month.
“I do have favorites,” he said. “I really like Northwestern, TCU, Michigan State and Western Michigan. Those are the ones that I really liked. I just liked the mix of campus, coaches and their interest level in me is pretty good.”
Miller did get May calls from Kansas State, Texas Tech, Tulane and Louisiana Monroe.
At the College Station NIKE Training Camp, Miller weighed in at 322 pounds and clocked a 5.62-second time in the 40-yard dash. However, he’s lost more than 12 pounds and is in the 310-pound range.
“Ten pounds makes you that much quicker,” he said. “I just started to eat and drink protein shakes every day, and then I ate five meals a day. I also cut the fat out of everything. Everybody is talking about how lean I am now. It’s amazing what 10 pounds can do to your look and how you play.”
