Barrington, Ill. offensive tackle prospect Dan Doering (6-foot-6, 290 pounds) has ended an amazing May evaluation period, and Doering talks about his thoughts regarding his May as well as being named as the #6 prospect in the nation according to Rivals100.com on Tuesday.
"I received an offer from the University of Texas," Dan Doering said. "I'm really happy about getting an offer from the Longhorns. I've been to Austin a few times over the years and it's a great city, and Texas has some great tradition."
"As far as being named the 6th best prospect in the nation by Rivals100.com, I truly don't know what to say," Dan Doering said. "I was surprised by that honor, but I'm also very thankful. It's very flattering to receive such an honor. I appreciate that and it's just giving me more motivation to keep working as hard as I can to get ready for the season."
So does Doering have a final tally of the amount of calls as well as in school visitors who made the trip to Barrington High School during the May evaluation period? "According to my coaches we had 55 college coaches make in school visits, and from my best guess we had roughly 40-50 coaches call my house during May."
So how in the world did Doering and his family manage to keep it's sanity during the May evaluation period? "Everyone said that things would get hectic, but in all honesty I think we took control of the process early, and I was able to manage my time wisely. We limited the times that coaches could call, and that helped out a lot. The coaches really respected why we tried to control things, and it wasn't as bad or as hectic as I thought it was going to be, which is a good thing."
"This summer I'm going to make several unofficial visits. My Dad and I are in the process of setting a schedule, and my team events and camp is my first priority, then we'll see how many visits we'll be able to fit in. Several college coaches have already asked me if they can call me on September. I'm going to narrow things to 5-8 schools before September 1st, then we'll go from there."
Dan Doering currently has scholarship offers from Texas, Arizona, Boston College, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Purdue, Tennessee, UCLA, USC and Wisconsin.
