Oklahoma lineman commits

Frederick, Okla., two-way lineman Chris Messner has been battling a case of the flu this past week. But there is nothing like a scholarship offer and a commitment to make you feel better.
"Coach Gundy called me on Tuesday," Messner said. "We got to talking, and he just asked me if I would like a scholarship to OU. I said "sounds good to me.'

"I said sure yeah, 'I'm coming.' Coach Gundy said if you want to you can take some time to talk it over with your family, but I told them that I'm coming."
Messner, a three-star selection, is listed as 6-foot-7, 240-pound defensive end. However, the Sooners have been eyeing him as an offensive lineman since coach Mark Mangino scouted him at the OU summer camp.
"I'm committed," Messner said. "I'm going to go up there on Saturday for the game and make it official, I guess. I want to tell coach Stoops, coach Gundy and coach Mangino in person. But I'm committed and ready to be a Sooner."
Messner said after he told coach Gundy of the news, he spent a few minutes on the phone with Sooner head coach Bob Stoops.
"It's always been a dream of mine to play for OU," Messner said. "I guess it's finally come true."
Messner was also recruited by Oklahoma State, but the Sooners were his first scholarship offer.
