Oklahoma LB makes pick

Kansas continues their streak of adding early football commitments and this time it comes from Dakota Lewis, one of the top linebackers in Oklahoma.
Lewis, who traveled to Lawrence over the summer for a visit, decided on Friday to make the call.

"It was a big relief off my shoulders," Lewis said. "About 10:30 a.m. I called Kansas and talked to coach Mark Mangino, Bill Young, and Dave Doeren. They were happy and told me they were glad I wanted to be a Jayhawk."
Lewis said he had the most recruiting attention from LSU, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, and Texas Tech. But in the end, he said he felt comfortable with Kansas.
"They really showed the most interest in me," Lewis said of Kansas. "I liked Kansas from the beginning and started liking them even more as time went on. I liked coach Young who was the coach that recruited me, and coach Doeren who will be my position coach."
On June 27, Lewis made his trip to Kansas. After that time the Jayhawks took the lead.
"It was bigger than my hometown, but I liked everybody there and felt comfortable," he said. "I want to major in pharmacy and they have a good Pharmacy School. When I went up there I met some of the players and got along with them. I know their program is going in the right direction."
Lewis turned in solid numbers at the Nike Combine in Fort Worth. He had the best shuttle time of linebackers and the fifth best 40 time. He said he can now turn his focus to football.
"When schools start calling me in September I will tell them I'm committed to Kansas," Lewis said. "I didn't want go into my senior worrying about college and recruiting. We had a scrimmage tonight and now I can just focus on football and my senior year."
