Oklahoma lands four-star QB Cameron Rising after trip

Cameron Rising

Cameron Rising took a summer tour to schools and the 2018 four-star quarterback found what he wanted at Oklahoma.

The Newbury Park, Calif., standout picked the Sooners Sunday over plenty of other offers and shortly after visits to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Houston, TCU and LSU.

He found exactly what he was looking for in Norman.

“It came down to just the school,” Rising said. “I loved all the people there, I loved all my time there and just the thought of getting a good group of players around me is going to be nice.”

Rising loved his trip to Oklahoma and it was made clear to him he was a top priority from the Sooners’ staff especially offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Lincoln Riley.

“Coach Riley is always talking to my coach, (assistant) coach Keith (Smith),” Rising said.

“Constantly. Even my coach says, ‘Coach Riley is always blowing my phone up.’ He has been in communication on a consistent basis so I knew they really wanted me and they showed that. They didn’t just talk about it. They showed it.”

Oklahoma is off to a hot start in its 2018 recruiting class with commitments from four-stars Rising and offensive lineman Brey Walker along with Lancaster, Texas, cornerback Jordan Austin.

Still, Rising said he plans to do a whole lot of recruiting for the Sooners. As for other visits, the four-star quarterback will be back in Norman but is not planning to see many other schools any longer.

Rising plans to shut his recruitment down and focus on his junior season.

“I have to recruit a little bit here and there,” Rising said. “It’s nice to know I have a spot waiting for me.

“I definitely plan on visiting Oklahoma. I know that much. Besides that I’m most likely done.”
