Oklahoma lands four-star defensive chess piece Jaydan Hardy

Oklahoma has added to its 2024 recruiting class in a big way. Lewisville (Texas) safety Jaydan Hardy announced his pledge to the Sooners on Saturday while in Norman for the program's spring game.

Hardy's commitment provides Brent Venables with a key win on the trail. His staff went into the Lone Star State and won out for one of the most gifted defensive backs in Texas. The Sooners beat out contenders Oregon, SMU, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.

"I like the culture that they got there, man," Hardy previously told Rivals. "Coach Venables seems like he really has something going on."

Hardy has been an impact player on the high school level in a variety of ways. Lewisville has maximized Hardy's abilities out wide on offense as a receiver, in the return game on special teams, and all over the defense.

He excels in a nickel role in the defensive backfield. Hardy plays an aggressive style in coverage, and he has shown the ability to create havoc as a blitzer, too. He's a chess piece that excels wherever he lines up.

"Now I see that he's getting the players and the coaching built behind what he believes in," Hardy said of Venables.

Jaydan Hardy is ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 145 recruit in the 2024 cycle by Rivals. He is the fifth commitment for the Sooners to this point and is the second pledge in as many days with four-star offensive lineman Isaiah Autry committing on Friday.
