Oklahoma DE receives second offer

Tulsa (Okla.) Union defensive end Blake Smith got a surprise offer last week.
“UCLA called, kind of out of the blue, and offered me a scholarship,” the 6-foot-4, 240-pounder said. “I wasn’t expecting it at all. I’m going to go for my official visit after football season.”

Smith has received one other offer so far, from Tulsa. Other schools contacting Smith include Kansas State, Kansas, Arkansas, SMU, Oklahoma, and Missouri.
Does Smith have a top five?
“My top five schools are, Oklahoma, UCLA, Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas,” Smith said. Oklahoma is my favorite. I’ve always liked OU. I’ve been down there for three unofficial visits this year. I went to their junior day and spring game and also one other time to visit with the coaches.”
Where did Smith go camping this summer?
“I wasn’t able to go to any of the prospect camps,” Smith said. “I had to get my tonsils taken out at the beginning of summer when everyone was having their camps. I am going to Arkansas next month for their one-day camp. My teammate, Spencer McIllwain, and I are going down there together.”
During his junior campaign, Smith recorded 86 tackles and 11 sacks.
“Last year was okay. I’d like to do better next year.”
During his sophomore year, playing on the offensive line, Smith broke his wrist and elbow during an early-round play-off game. It didn’t stop him, though.
“I played all of our last two games. It was kind of tough but I got through it.”
