Size and speed: Blankenship is 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds. He has been timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.68 seconds, has a 315-pound bench-press and a 34 inch vertical leap.
Honors: Blankenship earned all-metro honors from the Tulsa World as a junior.
Statistics: Blankenship had 29 solo tackles, 57 assists, eight sacks, 14 tackles for a loss and six fumble recoveries.
Favorite Schools: Blankenship lists Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, Notre Dame, Arkansas and Colorado as his top teams.
Skinny: Bill Blankenship is considered one of the deans of Oklahoma high school football and he’s sent numerous players on to the college ranks, including two of his own kids. Next in line at Union and in the Blankenship family is defensive end Adam Blankenship.
Blankenship, who is 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, has a solid motor, ability to get to the football and football knowledge that being a coach’s son brings you.
“I guess the best way to describe me is fast and reckless,” Blankenship said when asked to describe his play. “We have a great tradition here at Union and it’s important for us to go out there every game and give it our all.”
And give it all, Union and Blankenship did. Union captured the state championship with a perfect 14-0 record and they’re hoping for a repeat performance this season. And Blankenship is hoping to repeat the success that his older brothers, Josh is at Eastern Washington and Caleb is at Tulsa, are having in college.
But the question is – at what college?
“I’m really just looking for a place I can fit in,” Blankenship said.
