Kenneth Murray’s recruitment exploded in the spring, but even after his August commitment to Oklahoma, other teams are still looking to try and steal him late in the process.

Murray said that Nebraska, Texas, Texas A&M and UCLA have been the programs making the biggest effort to sway him from the Sooners, but he’s quick point out those efforts are all in vain.

“Those four have been coming at me pretty much every day, calling me every day,” he said. “So it’s been pretty hectic with them, but I’m still firmly committed to OU.”

Even when pressed to think of something that might entice him to reconsider his commitment, he holds firm.

“There’s no possibility,” he said. “I’m sold.”

Oklahoma’s ambitious early-season schedule started the Sooners with mixed results, but they’ve had better success recently and have rattled off three consecutive wins. Murray took his official to Oklahoma on the big visit weekend when Ohio State was in town, has he’s been happy with the team’s overall performance so far.

“They’ve showed a lot of perseverance - a lot of resilience,” he said. “After a couple of losses they’ve just kept on fighting, kept getting in it and now they’ve turned the season around. So I’m definitely happy with the season, as long as they keep fighting, I’m always going to be happy.”

IN HIS WORDS

On his relationship with new Oklahoma linebacker commit, Jacob Phillips

“I’ve been talking to him for a minute,” he said. “We’ve been chopping it up - I’ve been in contact with him for a long time so we’re real cool. We’re ready to go to OU and get the job done.”

On his evaluation of the linebacker commits in Oklahoma’s 2017 class

“I think it’s going to be crazy, man,” he said. “We have a bunch of guys that like to lay wood so I can’t wait to get with them and start working, getting that chemistry down and just start balling. We all like to lay that wood, so they’re my type of people.”

On who his best relationships with players on currently on the team are

Caleb Kelly - me and him talk a lot; that’s my buddy,” he said. “Also (Ogbonnia Okoronkwo), I’ve been talking to him a lot, so I can’t wait to get in there with those guys and get to work.”

RIVALS REACTION

Murray missed the chance to see Oklahoma a few weeks ago in Dallas when the Sooners beat Texas because of having to play a Saturday game that week. Official visits are becoming more difficult for Texas recruits to organize as the postseason draws closer but he’s planning his next visit to Norman for the season finale, when Oklahoma hosts Oklahoma State.

Murray showed grit and athleticism in his Thursday night game against Fort Bend-Marshall. In the second half he hurt his left arm, and though he wasn’t quite as aggressive from that point forward, he refused to take himself out of the game. He led his Elkins team to a win in double-overtime, 48-41.
