That’s because five-star defensive tackle Franklin Okam, who is 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds, announced just moments ago that he’s heading to the University of Texas.
“It’s the best decision for me,” Okam said. “I can get a great combination of athletics and academics at Texas. I can get a great education, stay close to my family and my mother and I also really felt comfortable with all the coaches, players and the people around the town.”
Okam’s commitment is significant for the Horns and could bolster their chances of finishing in the national top 10 of the Rivals.com team rankings. Okam, ranked as the nation’s No. 2 defensive tackle, is also the nation’s No. 18 player overall.
Okam’s final two came down to OSU and Texas, despite him taking official visits elsewhere to Oklahoma, Florida and Stanford. He was a two-time all-district pick. He has a 4.9-second 40-yard dash and an even more impressive 3.9 grade-point average.
