Many people assumed that Richardson (Texas) Lake Highlands five-star defensive tackle Franklin Okam was going to announce his decision between Red River rivals Oklahoma and Texas.
In the end only half of that equation is true. Well, maybe technically it isn’t because it’s still a battle between a team in Texas and a team in Oklahoma.
Okam, who is 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds, is scheduled to announce at 10 p.m. on Tuesday night on Fox Sports Southwest. After visiting Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Stanford, Okam told Dallas Morning news recruiting reporter Graham Watson that he is down to two teams.
“I’m going to decide between Texas and Oklahoma State,” Okam told Watson. “I’m going to get it over with and finally announce tomorrow night.”
Okam ranked as the nation’s No. 2 defensive tackle and the No. 18 player overall received an in-home visit from Texas head coach Mack Brown late last week and was talking high about the Longhorns after the visit. However, one can’t count out Oklahoma State because it won the Xavier Lawson Kennedy sweepstakes last time they had a recruit announce on Fox Sports Southwest.
Rivals100.com attempted to reach Okam multiple times tonight, but he was out most of the evening because of a basketball game.
