Ohio QB/ATH headed to SEC

Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller quarterback/athlete Ben McGrath recently pulled the trigger on his college decision.
McGrath (6-3, 225, 4.6) will be heading south to play his college football after giving a verbal commitment to Rich Brooks’ Kentucky program.

“It just seemed like the best fit for me,” he said. “They were the first ones to offer, and I liked the coaches and the people down there. It’s SEC football, which is exciting to me, they have great facilities, and it’s just 90 minutes from home where my family can see me play.”
He picked the Wildcats over interest from Navy, West Virginia, Duke, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Boston College. His official visit to Lexington came on Dec. 5.
McGrath was a bit of a sleeper prospect his senior year after sitting out the first eight games with a severe hamstring injury. When he returned to the Moeller lineup, he passed for 878 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for 144 yards and four scores.
He’s been told he will get a shot to play quarterback, but UK coaches also mentioned the possibility of playing another position – possibly linebacker – depending on how he develops and the Wildcats’ depth chart needs.
“Coach Caragher said they’d give me a chance to play quarterback, but if that doesn’t work out, they’ll take a look at me someplace else,” he said. “They mentioned maybe the possibility of linebacker. I just want to get on the field and help the team.”
McGrath said he played some defense earlier in his prep career and still has the “mentality of a linebacker.”
