Columbus (Ohio) St. Francis DeSales offensive tackle Patrick Omameh has come to a decision. The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder held three offers from the Big East and MAC. Where is Omameh going?
"I committed yesterday afternoon to Cincinnati," he said. "I talked to my recruiting coach, Tim Hinton along with coach Quinn and Kelly. They seemed thrilled by my commitment and were all very happy for me. They told me I made a good decision academically and athletically.
"Coach Kelly came on too and he just said he was glad I joined the Bearcat family."
Omameh picked the Bearcats over offers from Miami (Ohio), Akron and Eastern Michigan.
"I had been discussing my decision with both of my parents and we decided we wanted a university where I not only could play football, but get a quality degree too," he said. "I thought Cincinnati was the place for me.
"I went on a visit in June and I liked everything I saw. The coaches were really inviting and I liked the facilities and campus. Before I went to the university, I had no idea what it was like. Everything was very impressive and the coaches seemed really interested in me and were friendly. I also liked how everything was positioned around the stadium and nearby."
The coaches were a big influence in the two-star prospect's decision.
"Through the process I mostly talked to coach Quinn, Hinton and Kelly," he said. "Coach Hinton was a really nice guy to talk to and made things easier for me.
"Coach Kelly seemed like a real easy going guy. He's very easy to get along with."
Omameh confirmed that Cincinnati is looking at him to fill the offensive tackle position when he arrives in 2008.
