Ohio junior DE getting early looks

Mentor, Ohio, junior defensive end Steve Matas (6-foot-5, 230 pounds) has been receiving interest from some of the top schools in the Big 10.
Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State, and Iowa have been in the picture over the past few weeks, but a few new names have entered the picture since that time.

"I've started to hear from Vanderbilt and Ohio," Matas said. "Those two teams have been sending me things and inviting me to their camps. Other than it's just been the same old stuff."
While he does not claim an offer yet he appears to be a well-rounded athlete from the defensive end position. In fact, he is expected to play on the offensive side of the ball his senior year.
"Next year I'll be at offensive tackle," he said. "I'll be going both ways. I played a little offensive tackle as a freshman so I know the position a little bit. I think I'm a better defensive end right now, but I think given some time I'll be great at offensive tackle, as well."
There is obviously quite a bit of interest in the Ohio defensive end early in the recruiting process. He has received several invitations to camps including several he plans to accept.
"I'll definitely be going to the Ohio State camp," he said. "Then the Penn State camp and probably the Bowling Green camp or something. I could go to a few more, though. I'm still waiting on some things to see who all is interested in me."
As a junior he had around 80 tackles and four sacks.
