Ohio DT may not sign on Signing Day

Cleveland (Ohio) South defensive tackle John Steele has several offers on the table from Mid-American Conference schools, but the 6-3, 273-pound prospect is still not sure where he wants to go. Signing Day is now three weeks away, but Steele is not sure he will be ready to sign on Feb. 4.
"I really can't say until I get qualified and get my ACT scores," Steele said. "I've still got schools that have told me that if I get qualified they'll offer me a scholarship, so I probably won't sign on Signing Day because I want to see all I can get.

"I am studying to take the ACT on February 7th. I'm just reading the books and watching the DVD's. I need to get a 17. I got 15's the two times I took it. For D2 I am good to go, and I've got a million D2 offers, but as far as D1, I've got to wait until I get qualified."
In anticipation of his decision, Steele is setting and taking official visits. He took his first official visit the weekend of Dec. 19 to Toledo and he will take his second official visit this weekend.
"I'm going to Miami of Ohio this weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing everything – the new coaching staff, the facilities, the campus," Steele said. "I've been to Toledo and I'm going to IUP the weekend of the 24th. I'm supposed to be going to Southern after the ACT."
Steele is happy with the offers he does have, but feels his recruiting process could have been more active had he been qualified earlier.
"It's not how I'd like it to be because a lot of Division 1 teams kind of gave up on me because they were waiting on me to get qualified," Steele said. "There's still a few that are waiting and might take a chance on me."
Steele is ranked as the No. 60 defensive tackle, the No. 51 player in the state of Ohio and a three-star prospect.
