Oghobasse not only star at Hastings

Not many high school opponents can look Hastings defensive end Vincent Oghobasse straight in the eye. But his teammate Eddrick Gilmore can.
“I thought the big defensive tackle was massive, but the kid I really liked was Hastings’ tight end,” North Shore Mustang recruiting coordinator and offensive line coach Tom Lewinski said. “He is a specimen and was very athletic when we played them in week two.”

And that’s how word is spreading on Gilmore (6-5, 255-pounds), who moved from defensive end to tight end to help Hastings run-oriented offense.
“I like tight end, but schools that are talking about moving me inside on the offensive line concern me,” he said. “I’ll do it, but I’d rather play tight end or even defensive end.”
Gilmore is casting his own shadow on the recruiting landscape and received his first offer from the University of Texas-El Paso. Houston, Arkansas, Texas Tech, Syracuse and Utah are near the offering stage.
“I think the others are getting close,” he said. “I took an official visit this weekend to UTEP to see them play Boise State. My dad played football at Houston, so I’m interested in the Cougars also.
When Gilmore isn’t banging heads he is throwing fastballs for the Hastings’ baseball team. He pitches and plays first base.
“He’s my guy in baseball and in football,” Hastings baseball coach and tight ends coach Clanton Vaughan said. “He’s legit and really wants to play football in college. He has good grades and his mother keeps him grounded.”
“I’ve been playing football all my life and it’s my first love,” Gilmore said. “I’ve never been clocked pitching, but I know football is what I want to play in college."
