Chicago (Ill.) Morgan Park junior offensive line prospect Ramone Johnson (6-foot-5, 307 pounds) is wrapping up a very successful May recruiting evaluation period. Johnson saw plenty of recruiting interest and scholarship offers during May, and now Johnson will begin to narrow down his favorites.
"Things have been going great," Johnson said. "I have added offers recently from Minnesota, Purdue and Northern Illinois. I'm up to 15 offers overall."
Johnson looks back and knows how important the May evaluation period was from him.
"May turned out to be really big for me, that's for sure. I had a ton of phone calls and coaches that made in school visits. I also added several offers from some great schools. Now that May is almost over with I've told several coaches that I want them to back off and cool out for awhile. I need to focus on my final exams coming up, plus I'm taking the ACT test soon."
Johnson is still looking at two early favorites, yet Johnson is also in no hurry to make his final college choice.
"I still like Illinois, but I also want to see Tennessee up close and in person this summer. I'm in no hurry to make my college choice right now. I know that Chris (James) and Juice (Isiah Williams) both decided on the Illini and that's cool. I want to take some visits, and I want to be able to see some other schools and programs in person before I decide on anything. I've really only been to Illinois, so I want to have some schools to look at and see how everything compares."
Johnson will start his early summer travels this coming weekend.
"I'm planning to check out Iowa this weekend. I'm going to the Iowa camp on Saturday, but I might also go earlier to just check everything out that Iowa has to offer. I'm definitely going to check out Tennessee this summer for an unofficial visit. I might check out a few more schools in person this summer."
