East Cleveland (Ohio) Shaw linebacker Reggie Smith took his first official visit this past weekend. Now the battle for the talented linebacker is on.
"Man, I really, really like it there at Boston College," said the 6-foot-2, 236-pounder who visited The Heights of Chestnut Hill, Mass. this weekend. "I liked how everyone was so together. The players all get along great, the academics are top-notch there and the campus is small and I don't have to take a bus to get to class. It was all good."
Smith, who had been listing Virginia as his leader prior to the visit, is now taking a different stance.
"I'm not naming a leader anymore," he said. "I really liked BC so everything has changed. I saw firsthand that I could step in and play right away. They have a middle linebacker right now who is 5-foot-11 (Vince Ciurciu)and he can really get at it. I know I could play the middle there."
Smith also enjoyed the food.
"I had a five-pound lobster and a 24-ounce steak," he said. "I ate all the steak but couldn't finish the lobster. I had to save room for three slices of cheesecake."
So did he think about committing?
"We all did," he said. "All of us from Ohio were there together thinking that if we all went to BC, that team would be awesome. Like Ohio State east or something."
Smith has a visit set with Virginia for Dec. 6 and will also take an official trip to West Virginia and probably Iowa before deciding.
"Missouri is in there too," he said. "I don't think I'll need all five visits. Man, I really liked Boston College. They've set the bar."
