Official visit confirms McWhirters decision

Maple Plain (Minn.) Orono defensive lineman Sean McWhirter took an official visit to Michigan State in October before making a commitment to Minnesota in late November. McWhirter made his official visit with the Gophers over the weekend.
"It was a good visit," McWhirter said. "I had a good time. I enjoyed it.

"I got to see a little more of the facilities. It was nice to meet some players and see the dorms. They are nice."
Both Minnesota and Michigan State had offered McWhirter a scholarship.
"Minnesota felt more comfortable," he said. "I just felt more comfortable with the people at Minnesota."
The 6-foot-4 and 245 pound McWhirter is the No. 9 prospect in the state of Minnesota in the Rivals.com player rankings.
