Offers still coming at Houston Yates

The wait could be over for Houston Yates 2007 linebacker Marcel Owens.
Owens (6-2, 220 pounds) is on the verge of receiving an offer from Florida International University. After seeing his teammates Patrick Dorsey commit to Kansas, Kijuan Dabney sign with Connecticut and Stacy Williams ink with Baylor, he never thought it would be his turn.

"We have a good relationship with Coach (Mario) Cristobal," defensive coordinator Jeff Ceasar said. "He's still looking for players and Houston is a good spot to get some. Marcel was a beast for us. He was the defensive MVP of the district and has a great motor. He has the athleticism to play anything from defensive end to safety."
Upon receiving word of his scholarship, the HISD standout plans to commit.
Yates already has two 2008 verbal commitments in Damian Square and Leroy Chevalier. The inner city school also boasts one of the city's best hoop stars in Anthony Jones, who has been offered by the likes of Texas, Texas A&M and Kansas.
