Offers rolling in for Thompson

Thursday included a two-offer afternoon for Darnell Thompson. The Highland (Kan.) Community College defensive tackle pulled down invites from Western Kentucky and Appalachian State to run his total to four. It was a milestone, sure. Thing is, it probably wasn't the end.
There's next to no chance the scholarship opportunities stop there.

Plenty of other schools are already involved. And while some are more serious than others at this juncture, there's certainly not a shortage of interest in the 6-foot-4 prospect's services.
"I talk to Arizona State a lot," Thompson said. "I talk to Miami-Ohio. Illinois. I'm surprised they haven't offered yet. I know Purdue has been in a lot of contact with my coaches. I talk to Memphis. They should be offering soon."
There is one program that carries a special significance, though. Originally from Raleigh, part of Thompson would love the chance to return to his home state.
"I talk to North Carolina on Twitter," Thompson said. "They like me a lot. I really want that offer, but if not it is what it is. That's home for me."
The line of thinking is the same reason why the offer he received from Appalachian State has added pull. Asked to name his current favorite in the process, Thompson is non-committal, but doesn't hide the fact that the draw of home is very really.
"I don't know," Thompson said. "I guess Appalachian State, really, just because it's back home in North Carolina. Not really, though. I'm looking at all four offers."
As things stand now, Thompson says he'd like to visit Western Kentucky, Appalachian State and UAB. New offers could certainly change that list. What won't change, however, is what the junior college standout is looking for in a program.
"I want the best coaching possible to make me a better man and a better player," Thompson said. "I want an opportunity to get to the NFL."
Thompson will graduate from Highland in May with three years to play three seasons at the school of his choice.. As of now, he is planning an early-January decision
