Offers rising for 2014 DT

Offers are beginning to rise for Hilton Head, S.C., 2014 defensive tackle Poona Ford. In fact, the SEC came calling last week for the 6-foot-1, 288-pounder.
"South Carolina just offered last week," Hilton Head head coach B.J. Payne said. "He's had offers from all over, including Utah State, Marshall, Toledo, FAU and now South Carolina. Illinois has offered as well.

"I can say it's getting ready to pick up. Clemson won't be far behind, and Florida plans to come in January. Georgia and LSU are looking, too, along with Virginia Tech. He's extremely special; he's a freak show."
Does the junior like anyone?
"I think right now, with South Carolina offering first, that's obviously first and foremost the team with him," he said. "We just came back from South Carolina's bowl practice.
"However, he's one of those kids who doesn't get wowed by anything. He could literally receive offers from every school in the SEC, and I wouldn't be entirely surprised if he went to a MAC school if it was just where he was more comfortable."
Whoever gets Ford is getting a star, according to Payne.
"He's an absolute freak show," the coach said. "He is only 6-foot-1, 288 pounds; he's not 6-foot-5. He squats 575 pounds and just turned 17 last week. He's only a junior. He's got a 38-inch vertical and an 80-inch wingspan.
"As a nose guard this year, he had 154 tackles and 10 sacks. He's an extremely quiet kid, but on the field he flips the switch. He actually hurt three of our backs last year because he plays the game very, very violent. We actually had to hold him out of practice."
