Destrehan (La.) 2015 three-star standout Kirk Merritt has turned heads with his play at running back and wide receiver, and college coaches have been quick to let him know just how much he is wanted on the next level.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound playmaker has picked up offers from the likes of Arizona State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Florida, Nebraska, and TCU. Last week he picked offers from Clemson, Texas Tech, and Tennessee.
Coaches from Mississippi State, TCU and Texas Tech all stopped by Destrehan High School earlier this week, and Florida State has invited him to junior day.
It has been busy, and Merritt is soaking it all up and beginning to make a travel schedule. So far he does not have any concrete plans, but he does have a few junior days on his mind.
"Junior days…I might take a visit to Texas Tech and Ole Miss and Tennessee," Merritt said.
Merritt also plans to compete at the Rivals Camp Series in New Orleans on Feb. 22.
As for favorites, he is currently keeping his options open, and that not only goes for schools but for also position preference.
"I like both, but receiver you only have one person to beat and you're just one-on-one," Merritt said. "At running back, I catch bubbles out the backfield, I catch flares, and they really put me in some space. I like both."
Merritt is currently ranked No. 54 among the nation's wide receivers and is currently No. 21 in the Rivals.com Louisiana Preseason Top 35.
