Offers pick up for NJs Berry

Offers have begun to pick up for offensive tackle Sean Berry out of Irvington, N.J. The 6-foot-6, 310-pounder has landed four scholarships recently from a variety of schools across the country.
"Toledo, South Florida, Syracuse and New Mexico State have offered him," Irvington head coach Darnell Grant said. "It also looks like Maryland is very high on him and he'll probably earn a scholarship if he goes to camp there, which he plans to."

What has caused the sudden jump in recruiting interest for the Garden State lineman?
"He is doing extremely well academically and people are taking notice," he stated. "Earlier I think most of the teams were waiting because they thought he is an academic risk, but he has a 3.0 GPA in core classes and that has changed things dramatically."
With offers in hand now, does Berry have any favorites?
"That is a very hard question to answer because everyday it changes with him," Grant said. "I've had some good conversations with Sean and he likes all the schools. I think in the end though he'll probably prefer to stay in the Northeast because he is very close to his mom."
Last season Berry earned all-area and conference honors despite playing just his first full season of organized football.
"He is a tremendous physical specimen that has great feet and long arms," he explained. "What is amazing is that he has only played football for three years since we got him off the basketball court and he continues to get better. He also has impressive speed for a guy his size."
Besides a camp at Maryland this summer, Berry plans to head to camp at Rutgers too.
