Offers pick up for Kempsville ATH

Virginia Beach (Va.) Kempsville athlete Trenton Hughes offer list has exploded in recent weeks according to head coach Jeff McGowan. Who has the 5-foot-11, 173-pounder gotten offers from and does he have any favorite schools yet?
"He has gotten quite a few offers from schools including Wake Forest, Syracuse, Kent, Akron and East Carolina," he said. "South Carolina and Cincinnati also seem very close to offering any day now too."

Currently one school stands out for the Commonwealth prospect's services.
"His favorite right now has to be Maryland," he stated. "I know Trenton has always liked Maryland for some reason and they are definitely his top school. We are in the process of working on a top 10 for him and I'd bet Virginia and Virginia Tech are in the picture too."
Although he is being recruited as an athlete, McGowan believes Hughes will be in the defensive backfield in college.
"I see him probably at safety in college because he has the mentality for it," he said. "We blitz 95% of the time and he loves to do that. He really enjoys making plays and using his aggressiveness and power. I still could see him progress into a corner, but at this time most coaches are saying safety.
"Trenton is also a great kid that is a fierce competitor. He is a player that will do anything the coaches ask and doesn't question it. He just gets it done and even if he makes a mistake he'll go at it at 100 miles per hour."
This summer Hughes is considering heading to camps at North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina and possibly Miami.
Last year Hughes registered seven sacks and eight deflections.
