Over the past few weeks it is obvious coaches have turned their attention to some of 2007's finest and you can't overlook Syracuse (N.Y.) Christian Brothers quarterback Mike Paulus who has seen an onslaught of offers recently. Over the past few weeks the 6-foot-5, 220-pounder has more than quadrupled his total to approximately 18 offers.
"He's got offers from Tennessee, Michigan, Louisville, Maryland, Virginia, Wake Forest, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Northwestern, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, Ole Miss, Duke, Pittsburgh, Miami (Ohio), Rutgers and Syracuse," said his father Dave Paulus. "The offers keep coming in and then he's got some very high interest from big schools like Southern Cal, Notre Dame and Ohio State.
"He doesn't have any favorites at this point in time. It is real early in the process still and we plan to go ahead after basketball finishes in the next month and start taking unofficial visits."
It's no surprise the schools have begun to come on strong as Paulus is likely to be an early commitment.
"He definitely would like to make a decision sometime before the end of the summer," he said. "We're going to start narrowing the process down over the next few months after taking some visits to campuses. Things that will be important to Mike include the academic programs, ability to compete for a job, the type of system the school runs and the whole package a school has to offer."
Currently Paulus is keeping busy on the basketball court as his team is in the sectional playoffs.
"The team is 16-5 on the year and the No. 3 seed in the state," he said. "Mike is averaging just less than 10 points a game."
Once Paulus is done with basketball at the latest by mid-March, he'll refocus on football.
"He's planning to start throwing the ball around as soon as basketball is done to get ready for the season. We will also sit down and determine where we'll be heading for junior days or camps," he said. "I think currently we are planning to swing through different pockets of the country over the next few months."
As a junior, Paulus threw for 2,100 yards, 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
