Offers explode for DT Porter

Recruiting has exploded for Charlotte (N.C.) West Charlotte defensive tackle Curtis Porter in recent weeks. The 6-foot-2, 334-pounder is now up to five offers including big-time scholarships from the Big Ten and SEC.
"I have offers from East Carolina, Colorado, Duke, Michigan and Florida," he said. "I got the one from Florida on Wednesday after I went to camp there.

"I love that offer. Oh yeah, I was surprised. They are the No. 1 football program in the country and the defense is top notch. You can't beat it. Plus, the academics are crazy up there. They are an all-around team and the school has everything. There is nothing Florida doesn't have."
Porter discussed his visit to Gainesville a bit more.
"It was phenomenal," he said. "The coaches are friends forever, they are so down-to-earth and straight forward. Coach Meyer is the best person. He's so cool and funny."
The offer from the Gators puts them right at the top of his list.
"I'm favoring Florida now, they are my No. 1."
With that in mind, is a decision imminent?
"That's in the mix, I need more time to think about it. I've got to see."
Porter touched on his other big offer, Michigan.
"I talked to the running backs coach there who recruits my area," he said. "I was planning to go there, but all the coaches were at a golf tournament instead I went south. I'm doing my homework on them and looking at the schools that offer me the most.
"My big factors are academics No. 1, football program No. 2, coaching staff and the environment."
The massive Charlotte defender is looking to take a few more trips in the near future.
"I might be going to Duke or Chapel Hill and probably Virginia," he said. "I have two other camps to Florida and Florida State in July."
