Offers begin for Carolina ATH

Recruiting is rising fast for a versatile athlete in North Carolina. The 6-foot-1, 182-pounder already claims two scholarships and is getting looks from plenty of other colleges around the region.
"I've got one offer from West Virginia and one from East Carolina," Mebane (N.C.) Eastern Alamance athlete Lamar Ivey said. "It's been about a month since I got the West Virginia offer and about three weeks since East Carolina.

"I've always liked West Virginia and their spread offense. I like the way they play. I like East Carolina because a lot of people from my high school go there."
Ivey took in his first camp on Tuesday at Georgia Tech and reflected on the experience.
"That went pretty well," he said. "They were talking to me that once I send my transcripts, they'll talk about offering me a scholarship. I've got a feeling I could get a scholarship soon from there."
What did Ivey think of Georgia Tech?
"The campus is nice," he said. "The coaches there are cool and welcomed me. They treated my dad, friends and I well. I liked it a lot."
Ivey plans to hit up more camps in the coming weeks.
"I've already visited Duke twice and I plan to go back for their camp on the 13th," he said. "I'm supposed to go to North Carolina on the 18th and then West Virginia on the 21st. I have to check on NC State. I'm supposed to go there and then I've got Wake Forest coming up on July 12th."
Ivey is also receiving interest from Maryland and Auburn.
Did he grow up a fan of any college?
"Actually, I'm a diehard North Carolina basketball fan," he said. "I like them in football too. I like the offense they run and just the way their fans are. They have real good support for their team and their coaches are pretty straight forward guys."
With interest coming in quickly and Ivey still looking at all of his options, what does he want in a college?
"I don't care about playing early, eventually I want to be able to play and possibly go to the next level," he said. "I want to find the right fit for me and find a good education. I'm looking at mechanical engineering or architecture. I definitely want an engineering program."
Ivey is coming off a big season in which he accounted for over 2,100-yards of offense 26 total touchdowns and four interceptions on his way to all-conference and all-region honors.
"I had a real good junior season and got us to the third round of the playoffs and a 10-1 season," he said. "I think what sticks out about me right now is that I am fast and can cut really good. I've got really good agility."
A versatile prospect, Ivey could play either side of the ball.
"I'm getting recruited as a quarterback, wide receiver or cornerback," he said. "My position doesn't really matter to me."
