Offer No. 3 comes for Blanc

In just over a week, Knoxville (Tenn.) Knoxville Central athlete Cody Blanc has accumulated three scholarship offers. The third came on Sunday from another SEC school.

"I got my third offer at Vanderbilt," he said. "I went to Vanderbilt's camp and did pretty well.

"My mom and dad went with me to talk to the coaches and they just said that an education is very rare and Vanderbilt is one of the top performing schools in the nation. That was a big thing. Then, they told me this was their first year there and they talked about their plans and how they are recruiting me as an athlete."

With offers mounting quickly, Blanc mentioned the possibility of a decision. Is that still on track for this week?

"I doubt it especially after talking with Coach Franklin yesterday, I'm not in a real big hurry," he said. "I have a lot of things to think about and I have three offers, I'm starting to have more of a choice."

While a decision doesn't appear to be imminent anymore, Blanc in some ways may have a timeframe.

"If I'm ready I'd like to decide before the season, but I'm not 100% sure I will," he said. "It would have been a lot different if Virginia Tech was the only one, but Vanderbilt is starting to open my eyes.

"It depends if more offers come from the ACC and SEC, that may change things around a bit. I talked to the coach from North Carolina the other day. But, I don't have a timeframe on when I want to commit.

"No matter where I go, I think I might graduate early, so that's the only advantage with deciding earlier. I don't have to worry about where I'm going in addition to the three core classes and one elective, plus school work and football."

One other factor still in play for Blanc with regards to his decision is a desire to possibly take more visits.

"I can go to Tennessee whenever," he said. "My mom and dad are going to go to Tennessee today to sit down with Coach Dooley for a bit since I haven't really talked to him before they offered me. I want to see what the future is like and stuff like that, see what they have to say.

"I think we may take an official visit to Virginia Tech again during the season, we really liked it up there and they are really, really interested in me. I might possibly even visit Vanderbilt again."
