Offer No. 1 comes for VA athlete

Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes athlete Reggie Owens pulled down his first scholarship on Thursday. The 5-foot-11, 164-pounder landed the offer from the ACC.
"I got an offer from Duke," he stated. "I got it on Thursday on a visit there. I had no idea they were going to offer. I thought it was just going to be a regular visit. I was very excited to hear and very happy about it."

What does Owens think of the Blue Devils?
"It was a really good visit and the education is very good," he stated. "They told me that they are working very hard to turn things around. I liked it a lot.
"They also told me that the whole staff liked my highlight tape and they talked about how they wanted me to come play for them."
Duke is looking at Owens in a couple different roles.
"They want me on special teams and at corner," he said. "They knew I could play offense too, but they really see me as a cornerback."
Durham wasn't the only visit for Owens in the past few days.
"I just came back from North Carolina's spring game on Saturday," he said. "They are supposed to be at my school in a week and talk to us. I liked the whole program they have over there, but I didn't really get to talk to the coaches too much. There were so many recruits there."
Owens isn't focused on football right now as he is working hard in track.
"I'm doing ok," he said. "We've had two meets so far and I think I placed in one when I ran a 22.7 in the 200 meter."
