Offensive players just outside 2018 Rivals250

James Foster

The initial Rivals250 for the Class of 2018 was released earlier this week, with several new names bursting onto the national scene. But on average, there are more than 300 four-stars nationwide before things are all said and done on National Signing Day. So which players are likely to make the leap up to four-star status in the future? We break down the players on the offensive side of the ball that are on the cusp of earning the coveted fourth star.

PRO-STYLE QUARTERBACK

“Nolan will reach four stars with a solid junior season. He has decent height and shows incredible touch. He's capable of making plays with his feet and does so on film. Questions about his arm strength remain, but he has plenty of time to answer those. Noland is committed to Arkansas.” -- Southeast analyst Rob Cassidy

DUAL-THREAT QUARTERBACK

“Foster throws a nice ball. And while he rarely flashes massive arm strength, his ability to bounce outside and gain yards with his legs makes him versatile. There's no massive holes in his game, even if he fails to look elite in any one area. Foster lists a number of major offers and is committed to North Carolina.” -- Cassidy

ALL-PURPOSE BACK

“Woods has a great frame, is very explosive, and runs with a purpose. He is a slasher, is very slippery in the open field, and is a big factor as a receiver out of the backfield or from the slot. Wisconsin, Virginia, and Northwestern are the biggest schools to offer Woods so far.” -- Mid-Atlantic analyst Adam Friedman

RUNNING BACK

“At around 6-feet and about 200 pounds, Walker is a punishing runner that breaks through contact at the line for consistent yards on every touch. He'll be lining up behind another menacing DeSoto offensive line this season and will certainly put up big numbers. Walker holds offers from Colorado, Iowa State, SMU and some others, but should see that list blow up this fall.” -- Texas analyst Nick Krueger

FULLBACK

“Strong has an impressive build and looks like a college back. He currently occupies the space between a massive tailback and a decent-sized fullback. He runs with power and catches the ball well out of the backfield. Strong is as solidly committed to Florida State as any 2018 prospect is to any school. He is likely to sign with FSU.” -- Cassidy

WIDE RECEIVER

“Adams is a playmaking wide receiver who impressed at several on-campus camps over the summer, earning him offers from North Carolina, South Carolina and Maryland. He’s a smooth route-runner and his leaping ability is what makes him stand out at his position.” -- Southeast analyst Woody Wommack

TIGHT END

“McAllister is one of those tight ends that came on the scene early in his sophomore year as a tall, very lean prospect that seemed like a pretty natural receiver. Every time we seem him, his frame has at least 10 more pounds on it, and that's a good thing. McAllister does a good job using his length and above-average route running abilities to separate from defenders. Maryland, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Syracuse, Virginia, and Temple have already offered.” -- Friedman

OFFENSIVE TACKLE

“Edwards is a very lean 300-pounder with plenty of room to fill out his frame. He is an excellent run blocker, drives his feet very well on contact, and finishes his blocks. Edwards is inexperienced as a pass blocker, but extends his hands well and has the necessary athleticism to stay in front of defensive linemen. North Carolina, N.C. State, Wake Forest, and a few others have offered.” -- Friedman

OFFENSIVE GUARD

“Scott was a player we did not get to see on the off-season camp and combine circuit. His offer list exploded during that time, though, and consists of top programs in the Midwest as well as the East Coast and Southeast. He visited nearly a dozen schools during the spring and summer, including Miami, North Carolina, Michigan State and Ohio State.” -- Midwest analyst Josh Helmholdt

CENTER

“Banks is ranked as a mid-three star but is the closest at his position to achieving four-star star status. He’s a tough customer at the center position and has the versatility to play all three offensive line positions. He’s awaiting his first offer.” -- Wommack
