No team has taken high school football and recruiting by storm like
Westlake (Calif.) Oaks Christian. So when Rivals.com began the selection
process for the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl, it's only natural that
several of the Lions' elite prospects play a big role in the game.
One of those big-time players is Marshall Jones, and the 6-foot, 190-pound
safety is excited about representing the West team in the game that will be
played on Jan. 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on ESPNU.
"I got real excited when I got the invite," he said. "I've always wanted to
play in a big all-star game, and this is a great opportunity for me to play
on a national stage."
That national stage is something Jones is used to playing on because Oaks
Christian has played several games on national television. This time
around, Jones will be playing for a new team. He'll also be playing to show
people why he's ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 47 player in the nation.
"I want to show people that I'm a legit recruit," Jones said. "I also want
to show them that I'm really good at what I do. They're going to see a
player that's versatile and can do a number of different things. I plan to
make some big plays."
People are also going to see a player that's heading to USC.
"It's always been a dream of mine to play for USC ever since I moved out
here," Jones said. "USC will also offer me the best education. That's the
main thing. With football, they'll let me go out and prove that I'm a good
football player. Basically, they'll give me a chance to play and that's all
I want."
