Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic standout Kristofer O'Dowd, the top rated offensive lineman in the West region, will make his long awaited college choice on Thursday. O'Dowd will announce at the high school at 2:30 MT, 1:30 PST.
O'Dowd, 6-5, 285 pounds is a big time talent and a top 50 player nationally. He could play just about anywhere on the offensive line but projects best at guard or even center. The athlete took official visits to Tennessee, USC, UCLA and Arizona and has already decided on his college.
"He knows where he's going and already told me what he's planning to do," Salpointe Catholic coach Dennis Bene said. "I don't want to give any hints, I'll let Kris make his announcement tomorrow and then he'll be available for interviews after the announcement.
"At this point, I'm not sure if the announcement will be televised or not. Fox Sports has been following him all year and I'm sure they'll have a camera crew out here tomorrow but I haven't heard if his announcement is going to be televised or not. He's excited about his decision though and it should be an exciting day for him."
We first saw O'Dowd at the NIKE Camp in Stanford two years ago and even though he was a year younger than everyone else, it was easy to tell the lineman was going to be a huge prospect. He clocked a 5.16-40, jumped 29 inches in the vertical and did 28 reps on the bench while more than holding his own in the position and one on one drills.
Many close to the situation feel O'Dowd's decision will come to an Arizona- USC battle. O'Dowd camped with the Trojans in the summer and while on his official visit in late November, several players on the visit said they felt he was leaning heavily to SC. At the same time, we've also heard there is a strong pull from family and friends for the O'Dowd to stay close to home and play for the hometown Wildcats. Either way, we'll all know tomorrow afternoon and one school will be landing a player who could make an immediate impact at the next level.
