Notre Dame's on and off the field combination won Tremble over

It was a battle for Norcross (Ga.) Wesleyan tight end Tommy Tremble. Georgia and UCLA were involved, but it truly came down to Michigan and Notre Dame for the 6-foot-4, 225 pound senior.

The decision was not easy, but once his mind was made up, he felt good about his decision.

"It was a tough decision and I went back and forth a lot," said Tremble. "When I say a lot — I mean a lot, a lot. It was really hard to decide and it took a lot of praying, a lot of thinking, a lot of talking to my parents and I just felt Notre Dame was the best option for me."

Tremble just announced his decision on Thursday and it was not that long ago that he made his mind up. On Tuesday is when it clicked he said and that is when he came to the decision that it would be the Irish.

"You cannot beat the type of education combined with football that Notre Dame offers. A degree from Notre Dame sets you up for life. When you combine that with the coaches, who have been so good to me throughout this whole process, it was just the right school for me."

The new Irish commit has visited South Bend three times, so he has a great feel for the environment. He took in the history and of the surroundings the first time and by the time he took all that in, he felt at home.

"When I was on my visits there, it had that homey feel," said Tremble. "I felt like I could vibe with the players, it was great being around the coaches and it seemed like a really good environment for me. It just felt really comfortable to me compared to other places."

Tremble's no. 1 focus was always on academics when he evaluated his schools, but he wanted to go somewhere he could be used on the field too. He is definitely thinking about life after football, but when he straps on the pads, he still will have the NFL in his mind.

What the Irish do offensively helped land the No. 18-ranked tight end in the country too.

"I like the offense Notre Dame runs. I feel like all of the schools I considered really used the tight end in their offense, but I think I can do really well under coach Long. We have developed a great relationship, he likes what I can do with my size and speed and we both think I can make an impact in the offense."

As of now, Tremble does not plan to sign during the early signing period. He is going to enjoy the moment and he plans to sign with the Irish February 7. There is nothing to worry about though if you are a Notre Dame fan, Tremble's mind is made up.

"To be committed feels nice — real nice," said Tremble. "It is a great feeling to know that things are getting set up for my life, so that is pretty exciting for me and my family.

"The recruiting process was fun for me, but I am happy with where I am now. Notre Dame I feel is the best fit for me on and off the field, so to know my future will be there feels really good."
