Notre Dame offers 2017 Okla. safety

Midwest City, Okla., safety Evan Fields remains wide open and continues to see his stock rise. On Thursday the three-star defensive back picked up offer No 26 from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

WHAT’S NEXT

Fields has already taken official visits to Kansas State (Nov. 4) and Oklahoma State (Nov. 11). He is scheduled to leave for his third official this weekend to Arizona State. Those three schools along with Illinois and Mississippi State made the top five list Fields released earlier this fall, but he has since backed off from a set group of favorites and declared he is “completely open to all schools.” Fields had also set a commitment date of Dec. 13, but announced last week he was postponing that decision. He is likely to take his recruitment into January now and has two official visit spots still open.

IN HIS WORDS

“It's not too late; there's a possibility (Notre Dame could get an official visit). I mean it's Notre Dame, so it's an honor, but I feel as if I have a lot of big offers.”

RIVALS’ REACTION

A program the caliber of Notre Dame offering an uncommitted senior this close to National Signing Day is certainly noteworthy and it sounds like this will be a team Fields will consider for a January official visit. When he postponed the planned Dec. 13 commitment date that signaled Fields was willing to take a longer look at some of the schools that offered him more recently – Illinois and Iowa State also offered him in the last month – but those schools will have plenty of work to do overcoming the programs that have been recruiting him from the beginning.
