One of the quickest running backs on the east coast has decided to make Notre Dame his home.
"Isaiah committed to Notre Dame last night," said Virginia Beach (Va.) Salem Head Coach Chris Beatty of his star running back Isaiah Gardner. "He really liked some of the in-state schools and he has family in Michigan, but it really came down to coach Willingham at Notre Dame and the fact that there's not much wrong with that program and school."
Gardner, a 5-foot-11, 185-pounder with 4.4-second speed in the 40-yard dash, chose Notre Dame over offers from Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Michigan and Michigan State.
"He's going to get some looks on both sides of the ball they said," said Beatty. "He can play running back and be slotted out at wideout at times and he's also a very good corner. He can be used in many different ways."
As a junior, Gardner ran for more than 1,100 yards and 23 touchdowns. He was recruited harder by Notre Dame than the rest according to his coach.
"Coach Willingham really got personally involved and just showed Isaiah how much he was wanted," he said. "He really couldn't have gone wrong with any choice he made, but now he gets to play on national television every game and he's between his family in Virginia and Michigan."
