Notebook: Parkinson sees SEC interest

It was a busy weekend in Southern California with the Anaheim Servite-La Puente
Bishop Amat matchup on Friday night and then two games Saturday at the Honor

Bowl which featured San Diego Cathedral Catholic against Westlake Village Oaks
Christian and the headliner Corona Centennial vs. Gardena Serra. Here are all
the latest recruiting news and notes.
Parkinson sees SEC interest
Colby Parkinson
Colby Parkinson has started to hear a little bit from Arkansas but the
2017 four-star tight end is not too concerned with the recruiting process at
this point.
The Razorbacks join a bunch of other teams that are getting more involved with
the 6-foot-5 prospect from Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian who already
has offers from Tennessee, Washington and Washington State.
There's no rush from Parkinson at this point and he's not planning too much this
season with only possible trips to USC and UCLA in the coming weeks. The
four-star is not planning any out-of-town trips at this point.
McKinley switches visit plans
Javon McKinley has made a change to his official visit schedule.
No longer will the four-star wide receiver from Corona Centennial visit Ohio State. Instead, McKinley will take an official visit to Washington along with
UCLA, Tennessee, Ohio State and Notre Dame.
This could be an important development since McKinley has rethought his
recruitment and still remains open to all programs. With the Huskies being
involved for so long, a trip up to Seattle could be a big deal in his
recruitment.
McKinley still has lots of time to make a decision though. The four-star doesn't
plan to make any serious moves until the Army All-American Game.
Betiku to take other trips
Wole Betiku committed to UCLA in early August but he has decided to
take other official visits and has added another one to his list.
The Gardena Serra four-star defensive end will now see Notre Dame, Texas A&M,
Florida State and Florida (the new one) this fall as his recruitment continues.
Betiku likes a lot about the Bruins - the location, the defense, how they will
use him in the scheme - but he hasn't seen a lot of places other than the local
schools and admits he wants to see what else is out there. It would be
surprising to see him flip his commitment but Betiku is going to take those
trips so it is something to watch through the fall.
Vaughns not looking at visits
Tyler Vaughns
Four-star wide receiver Tyler Vaughns committed to USC in August and he
had been considering other official visits but it doesn't look like those will
happen.
The La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat standout who caught two touchdown passes in a
win over Anaheim Servite Friday night said he doesn't think he will take other
trips at all. Before his commitment, Vaughns, the fourth-best receiver in the
2016 class, wanted to visit Alabama, Georgia and possibly Oklahoma but never
went out on the road.
Even after he picked the Trojans in recent weeks, the top-rated receiver in
California said he would still consider it but now it looks like cold water has
been thrown on seeing any other schools.
Ulloa mainly focused on two
Chacho Ulloa has had Notre Dame, Stanford and Arizona State as his
three favorites and that remains but it seems like the Irish and the Cardinal
stand out most.
The three-star defensive back from Corona (Calif.) Centennial has booked his
official visits to Notre Dame (USC weekend) and Stanford (Cal weekend) but is
still figuring out whether he will visit with the Sun Devils before making a
decision.
Ulloa, who had an interception in a blowout win over Serra on Saturday night,
still wants to make his decision in the early part of November.
Gaston heating up
Chris Gaston
Chris Gaston has amazingly still not received any offers but some could
be close.
The Bishop Amat defensive back had a pick-six in a loss to Santa Ana (Calif.)
Mater Dei in the opening week and he almost had another one against Servite but
the ball bounced off him or it could've happened.
Gaston said he has had lengthy talks with UCLA defensive backs coach Demetrice
Martin and it seems like the Bruins are getting a whole lot more interested.
Texas A&M, Washington State and others have reached out as well. With the way
Gaston is playing this season, offers could be right around the corner.
More Notables
Three-star
defensive back Kentrell Love remains happily committed to Washington
and he doesn't plan to take any other official visits. The three-star from
Corona Centennial said he hopes to take his official visit for the Cal game
later this month.
Three-star
offensive lineman Daniel Juarez made his pledge to California in April
and is not looking back one bit. The 6-foot-5, 285-pound prospect from Corona
Centennial raved about the academics and the program's direction and really is
not looking at anybody else at this point.
Four-star
receiver Michael Pittman committed to USC on July 4 after being pledged
to UCLA earlier in the recruiting process but the drama sounds like it's
completely over. The Westlake Village Oaks Christian standout said he's done
with the recruiting process and will not take any other official visits. Nothing
is finalized for his trip to see the Trojans yet.
