Not much happening for NorCal RB

Having success on the field doesn’t always translate to have success on the recruiting front. No one knows this more than Stockton (Calif.) Lincoln running back Billy Smith.
Smith, 5-8, 170 pounds was a first team all-state underclass and Student Sports Junior All-American last season after rushing for 1,941 yards and 18 touchdowns. He’s having another strong year this season with 956 yards and 16 touchdowns but he has only received two calls since September 1.

“Utah and Fresno State are the only ones who have called,” Smith said. “They both called awhile ago too, I haven’t heard from anyone in weeks. I’m not sure what the deal is but it could be my grades. I also still need to pass the SAT and I’m taking it again in early December. Hopefully once I get things squared away there, things will pick up for me.”
Smith ran one of the fastest shuttle times at the NorCal Nike camp where he clocked a 3.99 time. He also jumped 32 inches in the vertical and ran a 4.72 in the 40. His lack of breakaway speed could also be hurting him. He’s not a big back and without the kind of speed that a lot of colleges are looking for, it could be tough for Smith to find a school willing to take a chance on him.
