Northwestern leads for RB

Libertyville (Ill.) Carmel running back Jim Potempa recently took a trip to Northwestern for their junior day. The 5-foot-8, 180-pounder was very impressed by his visit and that has resulted in the Wildcats becoming his early leader.
"I like Northwestern a lot," he said. "I especially liked the coaches including my recruiter coach Johns. I went a couple weeks ago and basically just talked to them about the school and I got to go to a basketball game. I think I'm planning to head back there for summer camp."

Other schools showing interest in Potempa include Boston College, Tennessee, Illinois, North Carolina and Iowa. What is he looking for out of a school?
"I just want to go somewhere I can play football and get good academics," he said. "I don't care about distance I can play near or far because it doesn't matter to me."
The running back prospect ran for 975 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior. It was a slight drop off from his solid sophomore year.
"I didn't get quite as many touches last year because we spread the ball around more and I had to share the load with two other running backs and a running quarterback," he said. "Despite not getting as many carries, I did have a better yards per carry average."
Potempa was still named all-area, all-conference and academic all-state as a junior.
Currently he has no combines or camps scheduled, but maintained he plans to head to a lot of camps this summer.
