The scouting report on Bates is he has outstanding foot speed and quickness for a big man. Because of his quickness and overall athleticism Bates plays weakside tackle.
Bates and his Southridge teammates put up a good fight in a losing cause in their season opener against a state top 10 team Portland (Ore.) Jesuit.
Bates has an offer on the table from Portland State. He is received phone calls from Oregon, Oregon State, Kansas, Duke, Louisville and Idaho.
“I am looking for a school that will give me an excellent education,” Bates said. “I want to attend a school that has a good architecture program.”
