Northern lands Midwest QB

Norwell, Ind., quarterback Chandler Harnish started two-a-day practices last week, and as the season approaches, he thought now would be the perfect time to go ahead and get his college decision out of the way.
So the 6-foot-3, 210-pound two-star prospect that's ranked as the No. 15 player in Indiana by Rivals.com decided to go ahead and commit to Northern Illinois. Harnish said he was recruited by Husky assistant Jeff Phelps.

"It's a good fit," Harnish, who was also recruited by Indiana, Kentucky, Northwestern, Purdue and Ball State, said. "They were the first school to show that they really wanted me, and I like how the offense is a good fit for what I do. They run the ball a lot, and they throw it, too.
"That's how I play, and it's a good fit for me. Coach Phelps was a real honest guy. He's nice and easy to get along with. He just seems like he really wanted me to be part of the team."
Harnish threw for 1,845 yards last season and also rushed for 572 yards. He hopes to do all he can to help Norwell have another successful season. It all starts in the season opener against the Leo Lions.
"We've beaten them two years in a row," Harnish said. "I'm hoping we can make it three in a row. We've been going through two-a-days and we've been looking really good. I'm in good shape, and the team is ready."
