North Texas gets in-state pledge

Waller, Texas, quarterback Jeremy Phillips has led his team the regional semi-finals after defeating Jack Yates High School last weekend.
To top off his weekend, Phillips announced his verbal commitment to the University of North Texas.

"He's headed to North Texas," Waller coach and father Jim Phillips said. "He looked around at everything and really liked the direction that North Texas is heading."
Phillips has thrown for more than 1,200 yards and rushed for more than 1,000 as the Waller signal-caller, but projects on the defensive side of the ball at the Division I level. His brother Jason starts on defense for TCU and was the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week for his play against San Diego State last weekend.
"I think he could play quarterback in college, but they have three or four positions they want to try him at," Phillips said. "They want to look at him at safety and the outside linebacker spots."
Teammate Eddie Brown has offers from several Division I programs from national conferences, but he hopes the Texas A&M coaching change will give him another shot at becoming an Aggie.
"I really like Texas A&M and with the new regime, he's holding out hope," Phillips said. "He's got options now."
