North Shore duo lead way

Houston North Shore is the No. 1 ranked team in the state of Texas. They’re 6-0 and have yet to really be tested.
Among the reasons for the success is the superb play of quarterback Willie Gaston and wide receiver Chad McCullar.

But it’s not only their terrific athleticism or game-breaking plays that’s making the difference. It’s also their taking care of business attitude.
“We’ve been to the playoffs several times before,” Gaston explained. “So now, making it to the playoffs is no big deal. We have to make it all the way. That’s our goal – a state championship.”
McCullar agrees. “We’re doing real well,” he said. “But we’re not focused on the ranking. I mean, it’s nice and all, but we have to keep winning to keep that ranking.”
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Gaston is one of Houston’s leaders in total offense. McCullar, who is 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, has 17 catches for 390 yards and four touchdowns.
Both are being recruited. But recruiting hasn’t been their focus this season.
The same schools that both Gaston and McCullar listed to Rivals100 back in September are the same ones that they listed again.
Gaston likes UCLA and Arizona as his top two, with Oklahoma State, Houston and Arizona State also involved. McCullar lists Houston, UCLA, Arizona, Oklahoma and Colorado.
The two plan to take at least two visits together, to both the Bruins and Wildcats.
But don’t expect them to line up any visits in the month of December. These two fully expect to still be playing for a state championship well into the final month of the year.
