NorCal OL waiting for Cal to offer

Cal already has one commitment from Fresno (Calif.) San Joaquin Memorial and is an offer away from landing another. Running back Josh Lewis announced for the Bears a month or so ago and offensive lineman Matt Laird also has Cal high up on his list.
Laird, 6-7, 275 pounds has a classic left tackle build and that’s exactly where he’s being recruited at. He had a solid workout at the Nike Camp at Stanford and has a nice upside to him. He needs some strength work, as most young offensive linemen do, but he has good feet, is very quick and has those long arms you like to see in a tackle prospect.

On the recruiting front, Laird has a pair of scholarship offers and one visit set up but said if Cal were to offer a scholarship, that would be all she wrote.
“Fresno State and Sacramento State have both offered,” Laird said. “I’m also hearing regularly from Cal, Colorado State and Arizona. I have a trip set with Fresno State for (Dec. 17), that’s my only visit right now. Cal is definitely my top school, they call me every week and tell me they’re very interested, they just want to watch me a little more this year before offering. If they did offer, I would commit on the spot. I just really like Cal a lot and think they have a great combination of academics and football.”
Academically, Laird has already qualified and is carrying a 3.0 GPA and scored a 1040 on the SAT.
