NorCal DL lands Pac 10 offer

One of the top defensive linemen in the West next year is expected to Elk Grove (Calif.) Laguna Creek standout DeShon Matthews. Matthews has already received one Pac 10 offer and could be close on a few others.
Matthews , 6-5, 240 pounds was a 1st team all-delta league selection, the only junior on the 1st team last year and also earned all-area honors a year ago. He finished the year with 86 tackles, seven for loss, six quarterback sacks and a blocked punt.

"He's an excellent college prospect who will be recruited by everyone in the region," Laguna Creek coach Lewis Lassetter said. "He's at the same level in terms of talent as Alan Darlin (Oregon State linebacker) who we had here a couple of years ago and is the best prospect we've had since Alan.
"Arizona just offered him and Washington State is very close to doing so as well. It seems like in recruiting, as soon as one school offers a player, other schools follow suit pretty quickly and that's what I expect to happen with DeShon. He's also hearing a lot from Oregon State, Nebraska, Georgia Tech, UCLA, Fresno State and Wyoming."
Matthews is currently open among his favorites according to Coach Lassetter and will go through the recruiting process. He'll attend the Nike Camp in Palo Alto (Calif.) in May.
