NorCal DB lands 1st offer

Elk Grove (Calif.) athlete Brannon Brooks isn't a household name just yet but his stock has seen a nice rise in the last month. The two way standout recently picked up his first scholarship offer and he has been hearing from a host of schools from all over the country as well.

Brooks, 5-9, 160 pounds has the ability to play both running back or cornerback in college but is being recruited more for the defensive side of the ball at this time. The athlete is more quick than fast but plays bigger than his size and is a tough, physical player. He earned all-league honors at DB a year ago after totaling 58 tackles with four forced fumbles.
On the recruiting front, Brooks received a verbal offer from BYU a week ago and received the offer in writing yesterday.
"Brannon spoke with Coach Doman a week ago," Brooks' father Michael said. "He told us they were impressed with Brannon's speed and cover skills and said he could be a lockdown cornerback for them. They're actually recruiting him as an athlete who could play on both sides of the ball.
"Before they could put the offer in writing, they had to do a character check since BYU is a religious school and they want to make sure they're recruiting athletes with outstanding character. Brannon had not initially considered BYU, but is excited by the offer and has begun to research the campus and school and likes what he has recently learned. We're going up there on April 15 for Junior Day and to check out the campus."
In addition to BYU, Brooks is hearing from Alabama, Boston College, Miami, Illinois, Kansas, Fresno State, BYU, Utah, Utah State, UCLA, Oregon, Oregon State and Washington.
"Brannon is preparing for his senior season with intense workouts and expects to do well at the Nike Camp at Stanford," Michael said. "He's also going to camp at Fresno State and Illinois this summer."
