HOUSTON, Tex. – 2020 Rivals250 quarterback Malik Hornsby doesn’t lack for confidence.

After a meteoric rise in reputation this spring and early summer, he’s been one of the most popular names in Texas football recruiting and has started to carry himself with the air of a player that has designs to be the top passer in his class in the state. Eyes are on him to be leaning towards either Texas or Texas A&M early in the process and he’s camped with both in recent weeks but offers continue to roll in from all over the country.

His most recent offer has come from Kansas State, and even though the speculation is that the home state teams have an inherent advantage recruiting him, he has posted things to his social media accounts insisting that there are no early leaders to this point in the process. That being said, there are a couple of teams that he at least has a little bit of an opinion of - including Florida State.

“I really don’t know too much about Kansas State,” he said. “I’ve talked to the coaches a few times and we’ve stayed in contact but I haven’t been planning to take a visit yet, but I appreciate the offer so much.”

IN HIS WORDS

On Florida State

“That’s a big program and I appreciate the offer they gave me,” he said. “I probably plan on taking a visit there at some point. I’m actually a fan of Florida State since Jameis Winston … I watched them a lot when he was out there and I was actually glad when they offered. I’ve wanted a school from Florida to offer me and the tradition they have there is big.”

On his visit to Texas earlier in June

“The staff, they treat me well – like I’m part of their own already,” he said. “I was there all day, took a tour of the campus and they treat me like family there. The big highlight was the photoshoot, you know, icy white.”

On the Longhorns having one quarterback committed already in Hudson Card

“It’s not a situation,” he said. “I want all the smoke. I’m here to compete and everything can’t be handed to you, so you’ve got to go work for what you want … the staff told me it was a battle; you’ve got to battle, so I don’t have a problem with battling nobody.”
