Noles, Gators strong for in-state RB

The recruitment of Melbourne (Fla.) running back Mike Hamilton appears to be picking up some steam.
Players like Bobby Washington and Charlie Jones have dominated a lot of the running back discussion in the Sunshine State, but Hamilton is establishing himself as a prime target as well.

“Yesterday, I wasn’t home, but Florida State called and talked to my dad,” Hamilton said. “Coach Sexton said they were looking to sign two running backs, and I was one of the main guys they’re looking at.”
Hamilton (6-1, 210, 4.4) was an all-state selection as a junior after rushing for 1,610 yards and 24 touchdowns. He’s drawn scholarship offers from Florida State, Tennessee and West Virginia as well as interest from Florida, Miami, N.C. State, Alabama and Michigan.
“Right now, my favorites are Florida State and Florida,” he said. “Those are the schools I know the most about and like their programs. I’ve followed both of them. I like their styles and the atmosphere at their games.”
Hamilton said he’s been invited to the Gators’ showdown at Miami on Saturday, and will try to attend. He also plans to make Florida State’s game against Miami on Oct. 11.
His senior season gets under way this Friday against Bayside. In a jamboree game this past weekend, he rushed for more than 150 yards, scored two touchdowns on the ground and ran the opening kickoff back 90 yards for another score.
Academically, he maintains a 2.7 GPA and has scored a 17 on his ACT. He projects as a full-qualifier, but says he’ll take the test again in hopes of earning a higher score.
