NoCal sleeper emerging

There is a safety prospect up in NoCal who is beginning to be picked up on the recruiting radar screen. This safety is Corey Watkins (6-3, 185, 4.6) from Rancho Cordova (Calif.) Cordova.
In nine games Watkins has been racking up an impressive list of statistics for 2004. He has accounted for 110 tackles and six interceptions. Two of his interceptions were brought back to the house for scores.

Watkins is near the top in the Golden State in interception return yards with 192 for an average 32yards per interception return.
Probably even more impressive is the fact Watkins has allowed only four completions against him all season and no pass for more than 10 yards.
Watkins has displayed outstanding leadership skills and his team’s captain. He is also the guy who makes the defensive calls on the field.
Another thing to consider about Watkins is he is only 17 years old and is still growing. He lifted 185 pounds 18 times and has recorded a 33-inch vertical.
Though Watkins is considered a sleeper he is beginning to get the attention of D-I schools.
Since September Watkins has received phone calls from Oregon State, San Diego State, Fresno State and he’s getting correspondence from San Jose State.
