NJ safety Rodriguez commits to WVU

The Mountaineers added a commitment from one of the top players in New Jersey today in North Bergen, N.J. safety Evan Rodriguez. The 6-foot-2, 211-pounder gave his verbal pledge to recruiter Herb Hand this morning.
"I committed to coach Hand earlier today," he said. "He was my recruiter and was very happy and thrilled. He couldn't wait for me to get down there. I haven't had a chance to talk to coach Rodriguez yet, but he's supposed to call me tonight."

The three-star prospect picked the Mountaineers based on a few reasons.
"I never took an official up there, but I did go on two unofficials," he said. "I feel like it's a good fit for me. I was very comfortable with the players and the program. I went there a couple weeks ago for the Rutgers game. I think I've got a good chance of gaining playing time as a freshman, the fans are great and it's a football town and state. That's what won me over.
"I also really respect coach Rodriguez. The fact that he's staying there and turned down Alabama was big. He's a man of his word and I think they're very close to winning a national championship in the next couple years."
The coaches haven't discussed redshirting with Rodriguez yet.
"They never mentioned it and think I have a good opportunity to play," he said. "I just have to show them what I can do when I get there. I'll do whatever I can to get on the field."
The No. 10 player in the Garden State plans to take his official visit to Morgantown on January 19th.
Rodriguez had a final word to say the West Virginia faithful.
"I guess just tell them I'll see them soon and I'm very happy to be apart of the Mountaineer family."
